One of my personal favorites, Pokemon Ash Gray is a fan-made Pokemon game based off Fire-Red which simulates Ash’s journey in the monumentally popular, original Pokemon animated series. I was a huge fan of the animated series growing up, so Pokemon Ash Gray is definitely a pleasant trip down memory lane. Pokemon Sage. Pokemon Sage is not a ROM hack, rather a fan-made RPG maker XP game started by anonymous members of 4chan’s /vp/ board. Pokemon Sage has sets of new and unique Pokemon which often referred as Fakemon. The game sets in Urobos region, a place based in South and Central America that has an interesting rich culture filled with unsolved mysteries.
What are some great fan-made games of established series out there? I want to learn more about them. I just finished Metroid Confrontation which is a short, yet well made Metroid game that uses Super Metroid styIe graphics.
Very fun, yet short experience. I've also read about and seen screenshots of this mysterious, yet amazing looking fan made Metroid game called Metroid: SR-388, but I can't find a download for it anywhere or any information about carts being sold of it. Anyone know where I can find this game? I also started Legend of Zelda: Mystery of Solarus, which I'm hopelessly stuck on the third dungeon. I've beaten the dungeon, and I've gotten 1 of the dungeon items (dash-boots), but I can't figure out how to get the 2nd dungeon item which I apparantly need to move on to the next dungeon. And the only decent walkthrough I found on YouTube (the 'Let's Play' series), doesn't go that far into the game. Quite frustrating.
So instead I'm about to start The Legend of Zelda: Return of the Hylian which looks pretty good. Both it and Mystery of Solarus use A Link to the Past graphics and both games take place shortly after A Link to the Past. I've also checked out Mario Forever, but it just isn't good without controller support. Mario needs the type of control that a d-pad commands.
Which is a shame, because the game looks awesome otherwise. Abobo's Big Adventure is the king of these, that I've played at least. It's the ULTIMATE NES tribute game. Soooo freaking fun, and the game has such a great sense of humor, I found myself literally laughing out loud multiple times. What's great about it, is that each level plays like a different NES game. There's a Double Dragon level, an underwater Super Mario Bros.
Level, a Legend of Zelda dungeon level, a Contra level, a Mike Tyson's Punch-Out level, even a Balloon Fight level. Please, tell me about some other great fan made games out there in the Legacy Platform vein (preferably free-to-download ones).

Of the fan games I've seen, the good ones include: Rokko-Chan - A really well made Mega Man fan game that borrows a few elements from the Megaman X series. It's shorter than all the Classic Mega Man games other than MM1, but about equal quality to several of them. SMB Crossover - It's Super Mario Bros, but playable with a bunch of NES characters. It's fun, but I find the level design in SMB gets boring quickly. Nezumiman - Another Mega Man fan game.
It's easier than most Mega Man games, and has a lot of strange enemies/bosses, but is alright. QUOTE='Spinnerweb' Halo Zero - A 2D sidescroller. I'm not a fan of Halo but this was well done. Chrono Trigger: Crimson Echoes - A Chronos series fangame. Well done too. Chronos Resurrection looked awesome but Square Enix didn't let the fans continue development.
Sonic 2D Remix - Oh so awesome and colourful. Super Mario Bros. 3D - True, it was only one short level, but for what it's worth it's cool. Blueresident87 I've heard about this but I haven't played it.
Most people that I talk to who have say it is well done It is indeed. Square Enix almost had the fans stop developing this too, but the beta was leaked on the internet and later the full version:D.
